In
such difficult situation I tried to manage somehow and survive that attack
on my hometown. The first few days, after hearing air raid alarm I would
go to a bomb shelter in the basement of our building, with my wife
and daughter. We were carrying some most important things with us: documents,
money and water. There we were together with some other residents of our
building, some old and young people, children too. Hours and hours of
waiting were awfully long. We heard noise of jets roaring over sky, our
air defense artillery shooting at them, detonations of bombs, missiles,
rockets. And it was repeating several times during the day and night,
so I never took off my clothes, always prepared to leave apartment, since
our home was very close to several alleged NATO targets.

As
the bombing was intensifying and became more and more dangerous, especially
after the Varadin bridge was blown up on 1st of April, when I was almost
thrown out of bed by two detonations at 5 a. m. , we used to go to a nearby
underground cafe (6 meters under ground), spending there time of air raid,
and going home to sleep after midnight. The cafe belonged to our daughter's
friend, so we were welcome there. There were 3 or 4 TV sets so we could
follow the situation from safe. We watched in the same time our state
TV, CNN, Sky etc. so we could compare information. We were watching direct
pictures from Aviano NATO base where huge bombs were been uploaded into
bombers, and we knew in few hours they will be thrown on our heads. We
could just swear at them hoping they will crash down somehow.
